Such is the case with Jacques Cavalier, one of the world’s most-lauded artists who has composed some of the most successful and creative fragrances for him and her over the past four decades. As the perfumer of this collection, Jacques has carte blanche to use the most precious and expensive ingredients, something few perfumers get to do. His brief from the famous Roman jeweler is simply to create the finest fragrances. And he’s done just that. Using the theme of “Italian emotions”, Cavalier takes us on an olfactory tour of the remarkable country using notes and themes from famous locals and events. He expresses the joy and passion that you’d experience if you took a luxury 5-star tour of Italy through fragrance.

This month sees the debut of Bvlgari Allegra Spettacolore, an exquisite fragrance for her as a tribute to Italy’s Festival of Light. “I describe it as a suave signature with bright and luminous contrasts,” he says.

Star ingredients: iris concrete and ambery myrrh

“For me, Spettacolore is a nocturnal celebration and the emotions that stem from lights in the night, whether they be fireworks or candlelight.The first ingredient was iris, as it is one of Italy’s emblematic raw materials,” explains the perfumer. “The scent of iris is magical, both sophisticated and exclusive, and fully unique.”

“And myrrh, simply because it reminds me of a nighttime atmosphere brimming with festivity and joy, as well as sensuality and pleasure.”

Sourcing the highest quality iris and myrrh, Jacques spent weeks in his lab finding the perfection proportions of ingredients that evoked an Italian festival at night. The choice of the rich aubergine shade of bottle with turquoise cap is meant to reflect the Italian gowns and outfits worn at such soirées. The shape in silhouette are a nod to the glass artisans that have crafted precious creations just outside of Venice for generations.
