Fragrance Foundation Awards 2022
If you are a fragrance enthusiast, you will want to spend some time on the Fragrance Foundation website (www.fragrance.org) The not-for-profit organization was founded in 1949 in New York City with the goal of educating consumers about the art of perfumery. The volunteer committee worked with retailers across the country (and later around the world) to stage fragrance weeks, events and seminars with perfumers and industry executives.
The wonderful Annette Green (President Emeritus), now 97 years old, launched the Fragrance Foundation Awards in 1973 to celebrate the very best scents and the most creative launches. It was an overnight success thanks to response from consumers who eagerly went out to try all the winning scents. (The New Yorker Magazine ran a remarkable profile on Green in 2019 called “A Grand Dame of the Perfume Industry” that chronicled her life and challenges with launching the first awards) The awards were classified by distribution, target audience, gender and style. A select group of judges worked with Green to select the most deserving scents each year. They became known as the Fifi Awards, the Oscars of the perfume world.
It’s interesting to note that when Annette retired from the Fragrance Foundation in 2003, she donated the organization’s perfume archive to the FIDM Museum & Galleries, one of the most extensive perfume bottle collections on the planet. You can make an appointment to view the collection to this day.
The 2022 Awards were handed out on June 9th at a glitter-filled gala event at Lincoln Center, New York City. The Lifetime Achievement Perfumer honoree was Francois Demachy who recently retired as perfumer-creator of Parfums Christian Dior. He’s widely considered one of the all-time finest perfumers in the world by industry experts.

June 15, 2022 at 1:43 pmThank you Scent Lodge for creating such a wonderful platform about fragrance. Previously, I was very ignorant when it came to this topic. I now appreciate the quality of fine fragrance knowing the amount of time, effort and expense. I’m happy to say I own Dylan Turquoise and MCM fragrance. The packaging is truly unique. I too have yet to try Jimmy Choo.
