As one of the finest perfumers working in the world today, Sophie Labbé is only too aware at how competitive the perfume industry is. In a good year, more than 1,100 new fragrances will arrive online and in stores – all vying for the attention and wallet of fragrance enthusiasts. A modern fragrance must reflect today’s culture and lifestyle while transporting you away to someplace magical. It needs to smell modern and fresh – and appeal to consumers of all ages, backgrounds and styles. Like fashion, notes in perfumery move in and out of style so it is imperative that a perfumer understand what smells current today and what will pass the test of time. Each ingredient, of the 2,500 to draw from, must blend perfectly with the others. A great fragrance is a blend of chemistry and artistic brilliance, and one that only a few individuals can achieve. Labbé is one of them

Growing up in Paris with frequent visits to the countryside, Sophie decided to become a perfumer at a young age. She enrolled at IPSICA where she studied the science of perfumery before continuing her education at the Givaudan Perfumery School in Geneva. Out of hundreds of applicants, she landed a job as a junior perfumer at IFF (International Flavours & Fragrances) where she worked on fragrances such as Bvlgari Splendida Jasmin Noir, Mon Jasmin Noir as well as scents for Salvatore Ferragamo, Calvin Klein and Estee Lauder. It became apparent early on that she possessed a rare talent. Donatella Versace spotted this innate ability and recently hired her to compose Versace Pour Femme Dylan Turquoise, her new global bestseller.

Sophie Labbé shares how she created Versace Dylan Turquoise:

A burst of light, the Primofiore Lemon, considered the finest quality lemon, leads the dance and ensures a highly characteristic starting point, giving a slightly acidic but constant green note. Picked in the very early days of the season, this first winter fruit offers an amazing amount of juice, creating a wonderfully energetic air.
The Lemon is accompanied by Italian Mandarin from Sicily, combining scent molecules from the peel and flesh of the fruit to offer a multi-faceted note. Even more exuberance is given to the top notes by pink peppercorn, smelling very similar to red berries.

But the heart notes are what give the fragrance its creativity. A special accord enhances the freshness of the Guava juice, for an enduring, exotic and tropical undertone.
For a fresh and airy feel, the Guava is complemented by transparent Jasmine Petals with a floral profile enhanced with the essence of Freesia, turning the composition into a modern green.

The perfume’s sensuality lies in its modern woods. The base notes fall between light and shade, where Clearwood® combines an amber sensuality with a woody character, leaving no trace of the earthy and camphor notes typical of these essences. Made from sugarcane, this original molecule is the first to be created by biotechnology and is an exclusive natural ingredient that is the fruit of research. Combined with a cocktail of vibrant woods and white musk, it lends modernity to this prestigious fragrance.

The Scent: This fresh and light fruity-floral scent for women blends notes of Primofiore lemon, Italian mandarin from Sicily with jasmine petals & freesia. But it is the juicy guava notes that wrap around the white flowers and woods that gives it a fresh, delicious character. Donatella Versace describes it as an escape to faraway islands where the blue sky meets crystal waters. It’s a fragrance blended to remind you of warm sun and summer days.

Ingredients: Primofiore lemon, Italian mandarin, pink peppercorn, guava juice, jasmine petals, freesia, vibrant woods, white musk & Clearwood.
