In the era of Covid-19, wearing a face mask has become essential in preventing the spread of the virus. Any time we leave our homes, we must slip on a face mask that covers our mouth and nose. It’s a proven way to stop community spread.

Not surprisingly, lockdowns and changing health rules has completely changed beauty routines and regimes. Sales of lipstick and lip gloss have dropped while sales of prestige fragrances have actually grown. Scent is something you can enjoy while wearing a face mask. Here is how to gently scent a face mask and enjoy your favourite fragrances.

When it comes to scenting a face mask, you want to focus on the elasticized cords or straps that go around your ears to secure the mask in place. These are usually made of cotton or nylon and they are ideal for holding scent. This is where you want to spritz your fragrance. Simply lay your face mask on a clean down or tea towel. Take your favourite fragrance and spritz the cord once. If you prefer a stronger scent, you can spritz twice. But no more than two spritzes. Allow the scent to dry on the cord for about 30 seconds. You will find that anytime you slip on your mask, you will get a whiff of your favourite designer perfume. Every time you move your head, you will get a new whiff of your scent.

For those of you who want to be more adventurous, you can actually spritz your mask with two different fragrances. You can spray one cord with one fragrance and the other with a different scent. You just want to follow one rule. Make sure that the two fragrances share a couple of ingredients. If they both feature bergamot and vanilla notes, they will complement each other. This is a truly fun way to play with different scent combinations. When it comes time to clean your mask, use a scent-free liquid detergent or soap and wash in lukewarm water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry on a clean towel. This will remove any eau de toilette or eau de parfum. Once dry, you are ready to scent your mask again. It is best to avoid spraying the front of your mask as you don’t want the fragrance right at your mouth. Keep it on the cords around your ears and you will enjoy your scents in a brand new way.
