Mary Katrantzou for Bvlgari
One of the most joyful fashion/fragrance collaborations of 2021 is Greek fashion designer Mary Katrantzou’s partnership with Roman jeweller Bvlgari. Master perfumer Alberto Morillas and Katrantzou made an immediate connection upon their first meeting and set about to bring Mary’s vision of “maximalism flowers” to fruition. The limited edition fragrance for her was to be a generous and colourful floral interpretation.
For those of you unfamiliar with Katrantzou’s work, she’s an up-and-coming fashion designer who has showcased her collections during Fashion Weeks around the world. Born in Athens to a father trained as a textile engineer and mother who worked in interior design, Mary would go on to study at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design where she would earn a Masters degree. Her signature look was trompe l’oeil prints with oversized jewellery and jersey-bonded dresses.
For her spring/summer 2011, Katrantzou took snippets of images from old Architectural Digest creating three-dimensional patterns through digital printing. It immediately caught the attention of Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Barneys and Neiman Marcus who ordered her collections. Editorial in Vogue, Grazia and Dazed and Confused magazines soon followed. She’s worked with Adidas and Longchamp.
Enter Bvlgari who tapped Katrantzou to help create a new limited edition Omnia fragrance, a floral eau de parfum best described as an olfactive kaleidoscope like a true explosion of colour. The compostion is built around a gardenia note.
Brand: Bvlgari Omnia by Mary Katrantzou
Romance: This floral eau de parfum for her features exuberant gardenia and orange flower notes paired with fig leaf accord, mandarin essence, blond woods and musk. It’s a limited edition collaboration between fashion designer Mary Katrantzou and perfumer Alberto Morillas. Katrantzou is known for her love of bold floral prints & motifs. She channelled this passion for mazimalist flowers with the help of Morillas into a joyful floral scent. The Omnia bottle is a kaleidoscope of colour & packaging is wrapped in a garden of flowers.
Ingredients: mandarin essence, fig leaf accord, orange flower, gardenia accord, musks, blond woods accord
The packaging alone is a wonder of creativity illustrating an explosion of exotic flowers emerging from the Omnia flacon. The orange, yellow and silver hues mix in washes of colour. It’s a true expression of joy and optimism.
