Sneak Peek: Boucheron Singulier
French luxury jewellery house Boucheron is unveiling a sophisticated men’s fragrance this spring called Singulier and we’re thrilled to offer you an exclusive preview. The elegant aromatic-woody scent for him will arrive at select Hudson’s Bay stores and thebay.com in the coming months.
Boucheron remains one of France’s most iconic jewellers. Established by Frederic Boucheron in 1858 at the Galerie de Valois at Palais-Royal, the craftsman caused a sensation the year later when he won the Gold Medal during the Exposition Universelle. Paul Legrand worked as the chief designer of the house from 1863 – 1867 and is credited with the idea of combining pearls with diamond rondelles, a special cut of the rare jewels. Boucheron went on to develop a clasp-less necklace and the peacock’s feather design.
In 1893, Frederic became the first jeweller to move to Place Vendome in Paris – a prestigious location where Boucheron remains to this day. Why did he choose #26? It’s because that was the sunniest corner of the square and he believed that the diamonds in the windows would sparkle more brilliantly.
In 1921, Boucheron was commissioned to make a tiara for Lady Greville which was later presented to Queen Ellizabeth The Queen Mother. Her grandson King Charles passed the tiara to his wife, Camilla. Queen Elizabeth II also had a collection of Boucheron jewels.
Inspired by this rich heritage, Boucheron set out to create a new scent for men: Boucheron Singulier. The goal was to blend a daring and balanced scent where the traditional aromatic-woody accord, a classic element in perfumery, is reimagined with modernity and a contemporary spirit.
Boucheron Singulier was created by perfumer Caroline Dumur around a wood that is iconic in perfumery: cedar, which adds structure to the composition and reveals its olfactory complexity in conjunction with the other accords and ingredients.
From the first notes, it reveals a fresh and lively facet that emphasises an invigorating accord of citrus fruits and juniper berries. These vibrant spicy notes reveal the composition’s intensely aromatic character, accented by a trio of lavender, clary sage and geranium. Together they bring vibrancy to the resinous and almost smoky facet of cedar, the one that gives a woody fragrance all its appeal. To amplify its depth and density, two equally iconic woods – patchouli and vetiver – join the composition. Combined, they reveal the full richness of cedar: magnetic, timeless, yet extraordinarily contemporary.
“This aromatic woody scent is built around cedar. This fragrance represents my vision of a new classic, while remaining modern. I used two qualities of cedar to emphasise the ingredient’s creamy facet, as well as its subtly smoky side, which pairs perfectly with the aromatic notes of sage and lavender. It is as if I had dressed this magnificent wood in many different shades of blue. I also played with two types of patchouli by mixing its essence with healingwood™, a fraction of the ingredient freed from its old-fashioned accents, which lends the note some real sophistication.” Caroline Dumur
An incredibly Boucheron bottle, inspired by the iconic Place Vendôme in every detail
The sturdy and sophisticated bottle of Boucheron Singulier takes inspiration from the distinctive elements of the Place Vendôme and encapsulates the Maison’s Parisian spirit by concentrating its essence and style down to the smallest details.
This translucent glass bottle is dressed in a deep and dense blue, a colour precious to Boucheron found on many of the Maison’s creations. Its shoulders feature a silver-coloured metal plaque that accentuates the bottle’s cut edges to perfection. Their design embodies the perfect rectangle of the emerald cut, one of Boucheron’s most iconic signatures, engraved into the metal.
The thoroughly masculine cylindrical glossy black cap also echoes the jeweller’s codes, with its top bearing the Vendôme Column logo like a hallmark.
Boucheron Singulier will be launched in Canada this spring at select Hudson’s Bay stores and thebay.com
